2022 National Sales Presentation
UNIFORM DESIGNER
At Fruhauf Uniforms, I get to combine my passion for the visual arts and my experience as a marching musician. I work directly with our clients —schools and marching organizations— to design appealing marching uniforms, in a variety of styles, from traditional to cutting-edge. Often, I meet with the clients for an hour-long, in-person design session, where I take their wishes and bring them to life on paper.

Design Process
Whether I'm designing in person or online, my process always starts with the customer. We talk through what they would like to see in their future uniforms, and I sketch out their ideas. This usually takes several iterations as they speak with their school administrators and band programs. There may be an "aha!" moment when either the customer or I see an element that enhanced until we arrive at the final product.
Below is this process with the University of Northern Iowa's Panther Marching Band Uniform. In 2022, I began my work with UNI to design a new uniform for the 2024 football season. The band director wanted the school's colors —purple and gold— to be equally present on the chest, with the school's logo large and visible from the stands. After the first two iterations, we came to the conclusion that the gold should mainly be displayed in a larger logo, the purple should be the main color, and that white should be used to brighten the previously darker jacket. With the design process complete, the uniforms went into production and were proudly debuted by the Panther Marching Band in October of 2024.

In addition to designing marching uniforms, I am also responsible for creating digital and print materials for the company. This includes creating eye-catching slide show presentations for sales meetings and marketing content for use in music education conventions nationwide.
All of this work pays off when I get to see the musicians enthusiastically don the uniforms I've helped design, knowing that they are a part of joyful life-long memories!
